The Platform

Hacking Design is a structured design education platform covering 104 courses across 10 silos. It is designed for designers who are serious about the discipline — not just learning tools, but understanding the principles that make design decisions correct or incorrect, regardless of tool.

The curriculum is organized into two tracks: Foundations (Seeing, Thinking, Making, Knowing) and Professional (UI/UX Design, Design Systems, Visual Design, Photography, Motion & Film, Design Practice). Each course is designed to be both self-contained and part of a larger, coherent whole.

Hari Hara Rao Bandi is a design academic, practitioner, and researcher based in India. With experience spanning product design, visual communication, and design education, he created Hacking Design to address a specific gap: the absence of structured, principle-first design education available outside expensive institutions.

His approach is shaped by a conviction that design is a discipline with a rigorous intellectual foundation — and that learning that foundation systematically produces better designers than accumulating tool skills ad hoc.

Every course on Hacking Design is built around first principles. We don't teach you how to use Figma — we teach you what Figma is doing, why it works the way it does, and what that means for how you should design with it.
